Fullbore & F-Class Disciplines

The Townsville Marksmen Rifle Club is primarily a target rifle club. precision single shot bolt action rifles are used to shoot targets over distances from 300 metres to 900 metres. This style of shooting is also referred to as prone fullbore discipline and is a commonwealth games sport. The club invites those interested in participating in this shooting sport to contact the secretary for information on the new shooter/come and try afternoons usually conducted once a month.

Target Rifle

Full bore single shot bolt action target rifles with peep sights up to 7.62mm/.308 calibre, fired at 300 to 900 metres.

F-Class (Scope Rifle)

Full bore single shot bolt action target rifle with telescopic sights and rests, fired at 300 to 900 metres. Shooting is conducted under the Standard Shooting Rules (SSRs) of the National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA).

The Smallbore Discipline

In 2002 the Townsville Marksmen Rifle Club became a registered smallbore rifle club and members now enjoy .22 calibre rimfire competitions on a regular basis. this smallbore discipline is an olympic sport.

Any .22 calibre rimfire or air rifle can be used in addition to smallbore & the bench-rest smallbore discipline. There is opportunity for people to come and have a shoot on one of the club's new shooter/come and try afternoons held once a month - see our calender for additional information.

How Can I Shoot?

Eligibility

Shooting is open to men and women of all ages. Queensland law dictates that a person using a rifle must be a minimum of 11 years of age. Adults 18 years and over must be eligible for a Queensland Weapons Licence.

New Shooters

New shooters afternoons are conducted on a regular basis. For further information or to make a booking for one of these afternoons please phone one of the Club’s contact numbers.

Firearms Safety Course

Firearm Safety Courses are conducted on a regular basis with details being posted on the website news tab once a date has been set. Anyone interested in attending one of these course please register your name and contact details with the club secretary by email (info [replace-with-at] tmrc.com.au).
The courses are conducted at the clubhouse of the Townsville Marksmen Rifle Club, Hervey's Range Shooting Complex, Hervey's Range Road. The cost of the course is $130 per person. Please contact the Secretary for further information.
